The Rev. Marnie Keator

As a child growing up in CT in the forties and fifties, I spent much of my time playing priest as I led my dolls and stuffed  animals.  At that time,  women  were not ordained so my playing priest was pure
  fantasy. Little did I know!
After graduating from the Garrison Forest School in Owings Mills, MD, I attended Bennett Junior College.  I graduated with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in
Early Childhood Education in 1961.  In 1962, I married Gerrit Keator.  In 1965 Gerrit and I, with our two young sons, moved to Honolulu, HI where Gerrit was Ass’t Headmaster and Director of
Development.  Our third son was born in Honolulu.

In 1972, Gerrit was named Headmaster of Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia.   We lived there for seven years,  when Gerrit was named headmaster of the Pomfret School, a coed boarding school  in  Northeastern, CT.  In addition to serving as the Headmaster’s wife, I taught English and coached Girl’s Cross Country and Girl’s Ice Hockey.  In 1989, I graduated from UCONN with my Bachelors Degree in Communications and Human Development and Family Relations.

In 1989, Gerrit was named President of International College in Beirut, Lebanon.  We moved to our farm in South Londonderry, VT in 1990.  While Gerrit traveled to the Middle East, I served as Senior Warden at St. Luke’s in Chester, VT.  In addition, I began the discernment process for ordination.  In 1997, I was made a Postulant for Holy Orders in the Diocese of VT.  At my bishop’s request, I entered Episcopal Divinity School (Cambridge, MA) in the fall of 1997. I graduated in May of 2000, being ordained in Burlington, VT as a transitional Deacon the week before graduation.  In December of that year, I was ordained Priest at Zion Church in Manchester VT, where I served as Associate Rector for two years.

In 2004, I served as supply priest in a number of churches including St. Andrew’s.  I was installed as Vicar of St. Andrew's  in February of 2005. I have served on the National Board of  FAITH ALIVE and the Board of Alpha New England. In addition I served for several years as the chaplain to the Daughters of the King at Trinity Church, Rutland, VT.

Gerrit and I continue to live on our farm in South Londonderry, VT with our four dogs, three horses, two goats, one sheep, one cat and three birds. Gerrit is major gifts officer at Phillips Academy in Andover MA. He works from home and goes to Andover for a day or two during the week in Andover.  Our three sons are married and have blessed us with eight grandchildren, six girls and two boys. The eldest grandchild was born in 1990 and the youngest in 2007.

Life is full and we are very blessed. Having found a spiritual home at St. Andrew’s has brought us enormous joy.
